USA Karate Team competed against 22 Pan American countries during the XXIX Senior Pan American Karate Championships in Toronto and won several medals. Kokumai Sakura won a gold medal in Female Kata while Scott Thomas won gold in Male Kumite (75 Kg). More medals were brought to Team USA by Malone Brandon (Male Kumite -60 Kg) and Maxine Lisot (Bronze, Female Kumite -55 Kg).
XXIX Pan American Adult Karate Championship is one of the important test events held for karate athletes in their preparation for the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games. Over 300 athletes from 23 Pan American countries competed at this championship. Consul General Jim Dickmeyer made a stop at the Championship to greet Team USA Karate athletes on March 21, 2015. He congratulated the team with their excellent results and welcomed their participation on the upcoming Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games in July.
