U.S. Embassy to host Fourth of July Celebration in Ottawa

OTTAWA – The U.S. Embassy Ottawa will host the annual Fourth of July Independence Day celebration (#July4Canada and #4juilletCA) in Ottawa on Tuesday, July 4, 2017, from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. on the grounds of Lornado, the U.S. Ambassador’s Residence. Guests will be admitted by invitation only.

This year’s event, themed “Summer Picnic in the American Tradition,” will feature musical entertainment by Sean Jones; retired RCMP Staff Sgt. Garth Hampson and his son Staff Sgt. Brad Hampson singing the U.S. and Canadian national anthems; a performance by the Band of the Ceremonial Guard; and a menu of traditional summer picnic favorites.

Please note the following arrangements for covering the U.S. Embassy’s July 4 celebration:

Working press must pre-register by calling the Embassy Press Office at 613-688-5316 before close of business on Tuesday, June 27.  Journalists and/or photographers who arrive to cover the event without registering in advance will not be admitted on the grounds. No last-minute substitutes will be permitted.  Government-issued photo ID is required for entry.  All media representatives and guests are permitted to bring cameras and smart phones onto the property.

The working press should arrive at the Lisgar Road Entrance, 500 Lisgar Rd., Rockcliffe Park, no later than 4:30 p.m. to clear security and cover the event. All media will proceed through security together, at the same time. Please arrive on time.

After coverage is complete, working media are welcome to stay and enjoy the reception as guests.

There will be no parking on the residence grounds or Lisgar Road. Taxi transportation to and from the residence is strongly recommended.

4:30 p.m.   Press arrives at the Lisgar Road Entrance and is met by Public Affairs Staff – after security sweep, press escorted to press area on residence grounds

5:30 p.m.   Event begins and guests begin arriving

6:15 p.m.   Official Program begins
