On Friday, November 14, the Toronto Consulate hosted an educational roundtable “Perspectives on Ontario’s Educational System” with superintendents, academics, education experts, and governmental policy representatives from Ontario and the State of Kentucky. The group from Kentucky was visiting Ontario as part of an educational leadership program organized by the College of Education and Human Resources at Northern Kentucky University.

This roundtable allowed U.S. and Canadian educators an opportunity to share best practices and discuss career pathways, kindergarten to grade 8 curriculum, technical high schools, soft-skill teaching, college and career readiness for high school students, and education tailored toward students who are from disadvantaged backgrounds, are recent immigrants, or are non-native English speakers. Public Affairs Officer Hilary Fuller Renner moderated the discussion and questions from the Kentucky participants which focused primarily on the challenges and successes within Ontario’s system. Ontario educators had an opportunity to highlight their efforts to improve academic success through all day kindergarten programs, technical training to increase post-secondary employment, family engagement and multiple pathways programs to increase retention rates, and experiences in developing cooperative programs with technical colleges and universities.
