U.S. Consulate Toronto and the University of Toronto’s Centre for Diaspora and Transnational Studies co-hosted a Trafficking in Persons: Perspectives, Challenges, and Solutions Roundtable, on February 27, 2015. The roundtable featured opening remarks by Jim Dickmeyer, Consul General of the United States of America. The Consul General was interviewed by the Munk School’s Global Conversations Podcast reporter Ariel Sim at the event.
The roundtable brought together representatives from U.S. and Canadian law enforcement, First Nations communities, academic institutions, NGOs, service providers, survivors, and City of Toronto staff to address Trafficking in Persons (TIP) issues in the Province of Ontario. The participants worked on identifying provincial trafficking trends and best practices for data collection, investigation, prosecution, and support to survivors. They also discussed the purpose and methodology of State Department’s annual TIP Report, reviewed the 2014 report findings, and provided recommendations for the 2015 report.
