Toronto Vice Consul Matthew Scranton spoke at Stephen Lewis Secondary School in Mississauga, Ontario to a class of high-school students who are interested in U.S. diplomacy and international relations on April 6, 2016. Named for a famous Canadian Diplomat to UNICEF and Special Envoy on HIV/AIDS, Stephen Lewis is part of Peel School. Senior level (grades 11-12) students of the program titled Social Justice and Equity through International Development attended the presentation. The goal of our program is to provide students with the opportunity to build the essential skills of critical thinking, empathy and teamwork that will be needed in the 21st Century workplace, locally and globally. After Scranton’s presentation, the students had an opportunity to discuss a wide variety of issues such as the realities of the U.S. Foreign Service, social justice, and many more. This presentation was part of the US Consulate Toronto’s newly launched Speakers Bureau initiative.
