Two American Fulbright scholars in Canada as visiting research chairs at the University of Alberta and McMaster University respectively participated in an informative round table on health, welfare and the Affordable Care Act (ACA) at the U.S. Consulate General Toronto Friday afternoon.

Interested Canadians from nearby hospitals, think tanks and universities heard the professors present on related topics and then everyone joined in on a discussion on health care in the U.S. and Canada.

Professor Saundra Schneider is from Michigan State University and is doing her Fulbright Visiting Research Chair in Governance and Public Policy at Hamilton’s McMaster University. She spoke about linkages between healthcare and welfare assistance.

The University of Southern California’s Professor Howard Greenwald is doing his Fulbright Visiting Research Chair at Edmonton’s University of Alberta in Aboriginal Legal and Resource Rights. He gave a comprehensive presentation on the ACA, sometimes referred to as Obamacare, and it was timely as the deadline for Americans to sign up for coverage is the end of March.

Questions the professors faced included were the media misleading people when it came to reporting on the ACA and where did the pharmaceutical companies fit into the plan. For more information on the Act visit here and for more information on Fulbright Canada visit here.
