TEDxRenfrewCollingwood 2014

The 2nd annual TEDxRenfrewCollingwood was a daylong event that showcased and celebrated dynamic ideas and peoples from the East Vancouver neighborhood, as well others from across North America. All the talks were presented at Windermere Secondary School’s auditorium on Saturday, October 25. This year’s theme was “Rock, Paper, Scissors!” which incorporated a varied series of serious, entertaining and cutting-edge topics. The U.S. Consulate General Vancouver was happy to offer a grant to bring two bright American thinkers to speak at TEDxRenfrewCollingwood.

Dustin Garis of Life Profit, who has been dubbed the “Indiana Jones of marketing,” brought a baby goat on to the stage as he enlightened the audience on how to live a memorable life. While working at Coca-Cola and P&G, Garis’s innovative approach to branding, business ventures and entrepreneurship earned him the title of “Chief Troublemaker.”

Our second grantee, Dr. Jimmy Lin, is the Founder and President of Rare Genomics Institute, a non-profit that provides research for families dealing with rare genetic diseases. He delivered a heartfelt talk on his personal experience of losing a loved one to cancer and presented the “4D’s” by which families can better understand and hopefully defeat cancer.
