Statement from U.S. Ambassador to Canada Bruce A. Heyman on U.S. Firefighting Assistance to Canada

“In response to a request from the Canadian government, the United States has sent ten crews totaling 200 federal firefighters to Canada to assist Canadian first responders in their efforts to fight the devastating wildfires in western Canada.  U.S. firefighters arrived in Fort McMurray earlier today.  This represents the latest example of the United States and Canada’s long history of cross-border cooperation and demonstrates the commitment we share to support one another in times of need.  In summer 2015, Canada also sent its firefighters to assist in combating wildfires in the western United States.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the first responders who are placing their lives on the line and with local residents and all others affected by the wildfires as they work to rebuild their communities.”
