Statement from U.S. Ambassador Bruce Heyman on the Alberta Wildfires

“Our thoughts and prayers remain with the people of Fort McMurray and all Canadians affected by the wildfires in Alberta. There are multiple mechanisms – at the federal and provincial/state levels, as well as among first responders – in place between the United States and Canada under which we provide assistance to one another, as needed.  We are in communication with both the Canadian federal government and the Alberta government, and the United States stands ready to assist.

“The U.S. Embassy, via the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance, will provide USD$50,000 to support response activities, joining tens of thousands of Canadians and Americans who have reached out to assist the people of Alberta.”
