Statement from U.S. Ambassador to Canada David L. Cohen on Independence Day

As the United States celebrates Independence Day, I wish my fellow U.S. citizens in Canada a very happy Fourth of July!

The Declaration of Independence was signed 246 years ago in my hometown of Philadelphia.  It outlines the fundamental credo of our nation: the belief in equality and in the unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.  The work to live up to our founding ideals continues.  Today, we celebrate the progress that we have made and reflect on the work we have ahead as a nation.  As we do so, I could not be prouder to represent President Joe Biden and the United States of America as U.S. Ambassador to Canada.

Our celebration of Independence Day provides us the opportunity to appreciate those who share our commitment to democratic values.  So today, we also celebrate the deep-rooted friendship of our closest friend, partner, and ally, Canada.
