Statement by U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Arnold Chacon on Canada Day
“On behalf of the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Canada, I would like to offer the people of Canada my warmest congratulations on the 154th anniversary of Canada’s Confederation.
This is my first Canada Day, and I am honored to be here on a day that is both a celebration, and as many Canadians have said, a time of reflection.
I am quickly learning what President Biden meant when he said earlier this year, “The United States has no closer friend than Canada.” The strong relationship between our two nations has never been more vital than right now, as we work together to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, and to keep our citizens safe and our economies strong.
On this anniversary of Canada’s Confederation, we are also celebrating the first anniversary of the entry into force of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). The USMCA will be critical as our countries work to build back better from the pandemic. It commits us to a robust and inclusive North American economy that serves as a global model for competitiveness, while prioritizing the interests of workers and underserved communities.
As U.S. Chargé d’Affaires in Canada, I am committed to continuing the work President Biden and Prime Minister Trudeau began earlier this year when they committed our nations to the Roadmap for a Renewed U.S.-Canada Partnership. I look forward to meeting Canadians across the country as soon as it is safe, and to renewing the relationship between our two countries—as neighbors, friends, partners, and allies.
On behalf of the staff and families at the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa and our seven U.S. consulates across Canada, I wish all Canadians a safe and happy Canada Day!”
Toute l’équipe de l’Ambassade des Etats-Unis à Ottawa sans oublier nos sept consulats à travers le Canada, souhaite à chaque Canadienne et Canadien une joyeuse Fête du Canada!
