Statement by U.S. Ambassador to Canada Kelly Craft on the Death of Captain Antoine Marvin Lewis

“It saddens me to announce that one of our United States Embassy community members lost his life in the Ethiopian Airlines crash near Addis Ababa.  Captain Antoine Marvin Lewis was on assignment in Ottawa as part of a military exchange program and assigned to the Canadian Joint Operations Command.  He was in Africa on personal travel.

“Antoine was originally from Illinois and served almost 14 years in the U.S. Army, both in the United States and overseas.  My thoughts and prayers are with Antoine’s family and the families of all who perished on the flight.  He will be deeply missed by both his American and Canadian colleagues.

“I have ordered the flags at the Embassy and Consulates across Canada to fly at half-staff.  We join the global community in mourning and recognizing the others lost, from Canada and more than 30 other countries, in this tragic crash.”
