Statement by Ambassador Heyman on the Shooting of RCMP Officers in Alberta

U.S. Ambassador to Canada Bruce Heyman wishes to release the following statement on the shooting of two Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers in Alberta:

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of Royal Canadian Mounted Police Constable David Wynn in St. Albert, Alberta. On behalf of the government and people of the United States, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Constable Wynn’s family, friends, and colleagues. We also wish a speedy recovery to Constable Derek Bond, who was injured in the same incident.

“I have had the honor of spending time with RCMP officers on numerous occasions, and I have been consistently impressed by their skill and professionalism. Constables Wynn and Bond are reminders that those who serve in the Mounties are among Canada’s very best, and that Canadians are fortunate to be served by such brave men and women.

“The U.S. Mission to Canada stands shoulder to shoulder with our Canadian friends in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police during this trying time.”
