Security Message for U.S. Citizens in Montreal: Planned Demonstration at US. Consulate General – Updated

The U.S. Consulate General informs U.S. citizens there is a planned demonstration on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, taking place in front of the Consulate. The demonstrators are planning to meet at noon at Dorchester Square. They will march down René-Lévesque Est and stop in front of the U.S. Consulate for approximately 10 minutes. They will then continue to Mansfield Nord, Maisonneuve Ouest, and stop in front of 999 Maisonneuve Ouest.

Demonstrations in Montreal sometimes become disruptive.  The Consulate General advises caution when traveling, particularly on foot, in the areas mentioned above.

Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence.  Avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
