Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Planned Demonstration

The U.S. Embassy in Ottawa informs U.S. citizens of demonstrations near the U.S. Embassy on Saturday, December 9, 2017, from approximately 14:00 to 16:00 and on Sunday, December 10, 2017 from 13:00 to 14:00. Local authorities are aware of the demonstration and will be on site to monitor the event.
Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. You should avoid areas of demonstrations and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations. The U.S. Embassy reminds U.S. citizens of the need for caution and awareness of personal security. Review your personal security plans; remain aware of your surroundings, including local events; and monitor local news for updates. Maintain a high level of vigilance, take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security, and follow instructions of local authorities.
