The U.S. Consulate General informs U.S. citizens that demonstrations and rallies by groups including “Worldwide Coalition Against Islam” and “Stand Up to Racism” are expected to take place in metro Vancouver, near Vancouver City Hall (453 West 12th Avenue) between 12:45 and 4:00pm on Saturday, August 19, 2017. Multiple opposing groups may participate, and large crowds are expected. A visible police presence with street closures and traffic congestion is likely.
Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. You should avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
