On a beautiful sunny day following three straight days of rain, CG VanKoughnett attended the closing ceremonies for the Rendez-Vous Naval 2014. The Rendez-Vous commemorated the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War, the 100th anniversary of the opening of Canadian Forces Base Valcartier, and the 70th anniversary of the Normandy landings.
In the picture, a CF-18 jet flies over the USS Oak Hill. Canadian soldiers on the deck of the ship had marched 30 kilometers from the Valcartier base to re-enact the march made by Canadian soldiers embarking for Europe in 1914.
