Ottawa Public Library and U.S. Embassy Ottawa Set to Officially Open New Imagine Space

The Ottawa Public Library (OPL) and U.S. Embassy Ottawa will officially launch their new makerspace entitled Imagine Space – An American Corner on April 23 at 4:00 p.m. at the Nepean Centrepointe branch of the Ottawa Public Library. The space will be open to the public at 5:00 p.m., following the launch.

The official launch will include the following speakers:

  • His Excellency Bruce Heyman, United States Ambassador to Canada
  • His Worship Jim Watson, Mayor of the City of Ottawa
  • Councillor Jan Harder, OPL Board Chair

We invite members of the media to preview the space before the launch, on April 23 at 2:30 p.m.

Where: Nepean Centrepointe branch, 101 Centrepointe Drive (Ben Franklin Place)

Imagine Space will provide a hands-on learning experience and collaborative environment for public exchange of ideas in pursuit of innovation. The fully operational space will include opportunities for 3D printing and modeling, laser cutting, photo, video and audio editing, filming with a green screen and video gear, working with hand tools and electronics and using a wall-to-wall whiteboard.

The goal of the space is to provide the public with new tools and technologies to promote innovation and learning, to connect design with social and economic change, to teach digital literacy, digital artifact and digital media creation skills.
