With spring finally releasing Toronto from the cold grip of winter, more fresh air was to be had at York University’s Glendon College over the last weekend of March. Students at the Toronto school organize an annual symposium focusing on a country of their choice and this year it was Canada’s closest neighbor, the U.S.

Going under the theme of U.S.A. Symposium: The Neighbour You Don’t Know, the event, completely run by students at the college, received a grant from the U.S. Consulate General Toronto for the 2014 session. Consul General to Toronto, Jim Dickmeyer, spoke at the event along with Fulbright scholars visiting from the U.S. and other professors.

The day-long conference included panels on the American economy and its institutions, the environment and green energy, and was capped off with a talk on U.S. foreign policy. The event was held at Glendon’s Centre of Excellence.
