National Day Message for Canada

NATIONAL DAY MESAGE FOR CANADA

On behalf of the people and Government of the United States, I send heartfelt congratulations to our neighbors in Canada as you celebrate the 155th anniversary of Canada’s confederation on July 1.

With each passing year, and with every challenge we face together, the friendship between the United States and Canada grows ever closer.  Our shared geography and history will forever link us, but our shared values, which we choose to live by, define our friendship.  Our two countries reaffirmed those values through the Roadmap for a Renewed U.S.-Canada Partnership in 2021 and in many engagements between our leaders and peoples since.

We value our historic alliance and steadfast friendship as we confront today’s challenges including our joint efforts to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic, address the climate crisis, and confront Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified war against Ukraine.  Today, we join our Canadian friends in celebrating the partnership between our two democracies and our efforts to address all forms of discrimination and exclusion and to foster an inclusive economic recovery that strengthens the middle class.

Together, Canada and the United States are building global alliances, bolstering our cooperation on health security, advancing a shared commitment to diversity and inclusion, and modernizing our continental defense.  We will continue to work closely to build a better tomorrow by leading with our core strengths:  democratic values, respect for human dignity, and our diverse and dynamic peoples.  As Prime Minister Trudeau and I noted in the roadmap, “The partnership between the United States and Canada endures because we invest in each other’s success.”

I wish our Canadian friends and neighbors a safe and happy Canada Day.

Sincerely,

Joseph R. Biden Jr.
