We were proud to co-sponsor the visit to Montreal of Professor James W. Ceaser, Harry F. Byrd Professor of Politics at the University of Virginia. Professor Ceaser was here to discuss the upcoming midterm elections in the United States at the invitation of our longtime program partner the Center for U.S. Studies of the Raoul Dandurand Chair for Strategic and Diplomatic Studies at the University of Quebec at Montreal (UQAM).
During his visit to Montreal, Professor Ceaser gave several media interviews, took part in a digital video conference linking him to audiences at the U.S. consulates in Quebec City and Winnipeg, as well as an election debate in front of a live audience. In her welcome remarks at the latter event, Consul General Nina Maria Fite reminded the audience that the Consulate’s role in any election was to ensure that all American citizens who had the right to vote could do so, that we do not take sides for one party or candidate over another, and that we believe that public debates are the mark of a healthy democracy.
