Five Canadians in the education sector are visiting Washington, D.C., now as part of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) on Higher Education in the America. This program enables Canadians who are emerging leaders in their professional field to observe U.S. institutions and culture first-hand, and to meet with professional counterparts to explore issues of common interest.
The Canadians will travel to several other cities as well during the three-week program. Participants will have the chance to discuss topics of mutual concern between educators in both countries including distance learning, continuing education, programs to meet the needs of students with disabilities and much more.
The U.S. Consulate General in Toronto worked with nearby Wilfrid Laurier University to send Kandice Baptiste. She is an Aboriginal Students Recruitment and Retention Officer at the Waterloo-based school.
Follow her blog for day-to-day accounts of her trip to D.C. and other cities including L.A., Dallas, Atlanta and Kalamazoo.
