Going south this year?
The United States welcomes international visitors every year. In 2013, 69.8 million people from around the world visited America and enjoyed its parks, beaches and urban centers.
As America’s closest friend and neighbor, it’s not surprising that Canada continues to lead the way with 23.4 million travelers. Mexico, the United Kingdom, Japan and Germany round out the top five countries. The most popular activities are shopping, sightseeing, visiting family and friends, and sports or outdoor activities.
President Obama’s National Travel and Tourism Strategy aims to make America more welcoming to visitors from Canada and all around the world, and has established a goal of attracting and welcoming 100 million international visitors annually by the end of 2021.
The U.S. Embassy is pleased to promote travel opportunities throughout the United States with a poster show on the Embassy’s gates showcasing the top 10 U.S. states that Canadians like to visit: New York, Florida, Washington, Michigan, Nevada, California, Pennsylvania, Maine, Montana and North Dakota.
