Demonstration Alert – U. S. Consulate General Quebec City, Canada

Location: Announced gathering points include, but are not limited to, the following neighborhoods in Quebec City and La Malbaie, Quebec, Canada:

  • The center of La Malbaie, Charlevoix
  • The Parc des Braves, Quebec City
  • The Fontaine Tourny (in front of the National Assembly of Quebec), Quebec City

Event: From June 3 – June 9, activist groups are planning to hold several protests in Quebec City and La Malbaie.  Police plan a heightened security level and transportation disruptions are expected in the vicinity of the demonstrations.

On June 3, at 1 pm in Charlevoix, there will be a rally in the center of La Malbaie.  The march will begin at 1:30 pm and proceed to the nearby ​​”free expression” zone where the protestors plan to create a human chain near the fence.

On June 7, at 6 pm, protestors will meet at the Parc des Braves (750 Sainte-Foy Road, Quebec). The group intends to march from Parc des Braves to the Congress Centre (International Media Center).

On June 9, beginning at noon and ending around 6pm, a demonstration is taking place in front of the Fontaine Tourny (in front of the National Assembly of Quebec). Organizers are linked to various union organizations such as the Fédération des Travailleurs et Travailleuses (FTQ), and the Confédération des Syndicats Nationaux (CSN).

Local authorities are aware of these demonstrations and will be on site to react when needed.
The Consulate expects that other demonstrations may occur on short notice during this time period.
U.S. government personnel are advised to avoid demonstrations and large gatherings such as those listed above.

  • Avoid the areas of the demonstrations.
  • Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
  • Keep a low profile.
