Death of Former U.S. Ambassador to Canada Edward Ney

U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Richard Sanders wishes to release the following statement regarding the death of former U.S. Ambassador to Canada Edward Ney.

“I received with great sadness the news that former U.S. Ambassador to Canada Edward Ney has passed away. Ambassador Ney served as President George H. W. Bush’s envoy from 1989 to 1992, a time of momentous change in the world and in our bilateral relationship. He was intimately involved in the negotiations that created NAFTA, whose 20th anniversary we celebrate this year; his is a legacy of enormous positive impact on the lives and livelihoods of tens of millions of Americans and Canadians.

“I and the entire U.S. Mission to Canada wish to express our highest respect for his achievements, and our most profound condolences to his family and friends.”
