Consulate Toronto Fall Student Outreach Launches At Trent University

On September 21, 2016 Consular Officer Amelia Vanderlaan, Media Specialist Madina Turdieva, and Senior NIV LES Althea Brathwaite, traveled to Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario. They presented to students at Trent University on what students should know when applying for a U.S. visa at the U.S. Consulate in Toronto. The trip included a consular outreach presentation to an audience of 18 international and domestic students. Students were particularly interested in learning more about the Exchange Visitor Internship program, grad studies, working in the United States and how to go shopping on Black Friday. The presentation was followed by a Q & A period during which students primarily asked questions about internship requirements and employment opportunities in the United States. This was followed by an interview between a journalist student from the university’s newspaper, The Arthur, and Vice Consul Amelia Vanderlaan. Questions ranged from asking about the IWP program, to discussing the number of officers who adjudicate visas, information on the Consular Outreach Program and what applicants should expect when going to the Consulate. This interview was the first interview for Fall 2016 as the part of the Consulate’s Student Outreach Program.
