In a speech to a group of high school students in Las Vegas, Nevada, President Obama reiterated the spirit of diversity that defines the American nation. Reminding his audience of the importance of preserving and embracing their history, he stated, “…we define ourselves as a nation of immigrants. That’s who we are—in our bones…immigrants helped start businesses like Google and Yahoo! They created entire new industries that, in turn, created jobs and new prosperity for our citizens…unless you’re one of the first Americans, a Native American, you came from someplace else. Somebody brought you.”

We are excited to introduce our new Facebook Page and “Our Immigrant Story” where we have made it our goal to highlight and honor the stories of societies of newcomers—whether first or second generation immigrants—who have made immense contributions to their communities and nation at large. Our diverse backgrounds and unique stories define what America is today and we hope to maintain and promote the spirit of unity in diversity which has helped our nature grow and prosper throughout its history.

The United States is a nation of immigrants, as is Canada and many of our stories have started in countries all over the world. Whether you are a newcomer or were born here to a family of immigrant ancestry, your story embodies the spirit of Our Immigrant Story and we would like to hear from you. Our stories can also be searched on Facebook following the hashtag, #OURIMMIGRANTSTORY.
