Consulate General Toronto Nominee Participates in Women in STEM Program

In support of Women in STEM, the United States Mission in Canada sent seven Canadian women leaders to participate in the U.S. Department of State’s “Women in STEM” International Visitor Program from March 21-29. The program offered participants the opportunity to meet American practitioners and thinkers in STEM and discuss opportunities and challenges to accelerate student interest and learning in STEM subjects. Consulate General Toronto nominated Lorraine Otoide from the Ontario Ministry of Education to participate in this program. Lorraine found the trip and the time with her Canadian peers to be very useful and learned a lot about STEM in the US while making some great connections for international education. Lorraine has played a vital role in assisting the U.S. Consulate with the educational exchanges working group and newly launched Speakers Program, a high school outreach initiative where U.S. diplomats will speak to students from various parts of the Toronto area.
