On September 24, 2015, Consul General Juan Alsace delivered remarks at a reception welcoming a trade mission comprised of the Honorable Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, Terry McAuliffe, Secretary of Commerce and Trade, Maurice Jones, Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry, Todd Haymore, and President and CEO of Virginia Tourism, Rita McClenny.
“With over $5 billion US Dollars in two-way trade, and over 1.4 million visitors in bilateral tourism annually, Virginia and Canada also enjoy a robust commercial and cultural relationship,” said Consul General Juan Alsace during his remarks. “One of the ways that this relationship has been built is through governor-led business missions such as this one, which helps create and strengthen mutually beneficial connections at the regional and local level.”
On the closing day of a two-day trade and tourism mission to Canada, in his reception remarks, Governor Terry McAuliffe announced new export sales for Virginia agricultural and food products into Canada. In addition to working on new specialty food export agreements, Governor McAuliffe also mentioned his efforts to increase exports of Virginia seafood products, craft beer, and wine to Canada during the mission.
During the visit, the Governor was interviewed by several media outlets, including BNN. The mission’s members met with representatives from seafood importing companies and with the alcohol regulatory bodies for the provinces of both Quebec and Ontario.
