On October 28-29, 2015, Consul General Juan Alsace attended the Ontario Economic Summit and provided opening remarks for Michigan Governor Rick Snyder on the importance of the U.S.-Canada relationship. They emphasized the partnership between Michigan and Ontario, and discussed opportunities for further economic collaboration including supporting infrastructure development, educational and cultural exchange, and environmental partnerships. Total trade between Ontario and Michigan amounts to more than C$68 billion and Michigan exports more to Ontario than any other U.S. state. The two-day Summit also featured remarks by Premier Wynne, many of her Provincial Cabinet Ministers, plus a range of business and political leaders. Delegates were challenged to think differently about how to direct Ontario’s economy from a period of recovery to a state of high growth.
