Ambassador Bruce Heyman departed Canada today, ending his tenure as U.S. Ambassador. Effective immediately and pending the appointment and arrival of a new ambassador, Deputy Chief of Mission Elizabeth Moore Aubin will serve as Chargé d’Affaires, a.i.

Ms. Aubin began her tenure as the Deputy Chief of Mission in May 2016. Previously, she was the Executive Director for the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs, and Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Algiers, Algeria. Ms. Aubin has also served in the State Department as the Director for Human Resources for the joint Executive Office of the Bureaus of Near Eastern Affairs and South and Central Asian Affairs; as a Special Assistant to the Under Secretary for Management, where she coordinated management issues for diplomatic operations in Iraq and Afghanistan; as a Post Management Officer in the Western Hemisphere Affairs Bureau; and in the Department of State’s Executive Secretariat. Her other overseas experience includes previous service at the U.S. Consulate General in Toronto.
A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Ms. Aubin holds the rank of Minister-Counselor. She speaks French and Italian and has a B.A. in Political Science from Barnard College, 1987. She is married to Daniel J. Aubin.
