U.S. Ambassador to Canada Bruce Heyman, along with U.S. Consul General for Atlantic Canada Richard Riley, and the entire U.S. Embassy family wish to release the following statement on the Moncton shootings:
“We were saddened to witness the terrible events in Moncton, New Brunswick. We extend our deepest condolences to the families of those Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers killed and wounded in the line of duty during this tragic event.
“I have personally had the great honor of spending time with the skilled and committed members of the Force on several occasions; notably at the RCMP Depot in Regina, Saskatchewan. The men and women who serve with the Force are among the very best Canada has in law enforcement and often collaborate with law enforcement officials in my country on issues of the highest importance to both our nations.
“The U.S. Mission to Canada stands shoulder to shoulder with our Canadian friends in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police during this trying time. We are grateful for their service.”
