Ambassador–designate Kelly Craft to present Letters of Credence to Governor General Julie Payette
OTTAWA – The Embassy of the United States of America is pleased to share in the announcement that Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, will receive Ambassador-designate Kelly Craft’s letters of credence on Monday, October 23, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at Rideau Hall, as part of a ceremony where other new heads of mission will also present their letters of credence. Shortly after the ceremony takes place, Ambassador-designate Craft will deliver a brief statement to press.
Kelly Craft was formally sworn in by Vice President Mike Pence as President Trump’s personal representative to Canada on September 26, 2017, after her confirmation by the United States Senate on July 20, 2017.
Mrs. Craft, a third-generation Kentuckian, has served in leadership roles with the Salvation Army of Lexington and the Center for Rural Development. She also served on the boards of directors for the Kentucky Arts Council, the Lexington Philharmonic, YMCA of Central Kentucky, and the United Way of The Bluegrass.
In the private sector, she founded a successful marketing and business advisory firm providing leadership advice to businesses in her community and across the country.
With a deep commitment to education, Mrs. Craft served on the University of Kentucky board of trustees and co-founded the Morehead State University Craft Academy for Excellence in Science and Mathematics, which nurtures the academic talents of young Kentuckians.
In 2007, President George W. Bush appointed Mrs. Craft as an alternate delegate to the United Nations General Assembly. This significant policy and diplomatic responsibility provided her important experience for her role as U.S Ambassador to Canada.
Mrs. Craft is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and holds an honorary doctorate from Morehead State University. She and her husband, Joe Craft, who is also a Kentucky native and University of Kentucky graduate, share six children and 10 grandchildren.
Ambassador-designate Craft will be the 24th U.S. Ambassador to Canada.
